making Spain's northern part of Catalonia a place with the least count of heart attacks reported and recorded all over Europe.
Spain, including Greece and Italy, has the same story. In these countries, young people are increasingly moving away from traditional-style family meals, to eat more of French fries and burgers. Young community in these nations is not consuming fresh food as well; thus, obesity is growing. So, people require to return to the traditional class of Mediterranean food that they used to eat in 1960's and 1970's.
Medical researchers initially came with the 'positive effects' of consuming olive oil and fresh produce. Since then, scientific facts have been piling up.
According to Dr Valentin Fuster, president, WHF, World Heart Federation, "the economic growth and meager diets often go together as people have wrong eating habits, thus they adapt themselves to fast foods, reason hectic work schedules."
He further added that below the age group of 19, one out of every four Spaniards is obese and about 16 to 17 percent fall in the category of being overweight. The result is a rising number of cardio disorders, adding more stress on public health budget, which is already strained.
In EU alone, as per estimates of ESC, cardiovascular disorders account for 170 billion Euros every year of the economic budget.
