Richard Raymond - Food Safety Undersecretary with U.S. Agriculture Department - said on 14 December 2006 that he had assured China that U.S. would be moving to grant the request of China about exporting processed poultry to the U.S.

With improving lifestyle, and changing consumer perceptions there's been a sudden rise in the demand for processed food in Asia Pacific region during the past few years.

The government has envisaged an investment of Rs 500 Billion in the food processing industry during the 11th Five Year Plan. The investments will be made in a strategic manner by the government, financial institutes and private companies.
