Jun 19, 2007

Australian wine export set new records in 2006, but the price per liter had been continuously dropping.

About 757 million liters worth US$ 2.82 billion were exported by the wineries, grappling with oversupply in 2006. According to the Wine & Brandy Corporation of Australia besides the US & Britain, the Swedish & Chinese markets were mainly responsible for this record growth.

Some of the best wines of world are produced in Australia. The country sells wine to more than 100 countries. Australia is the fourth largest exporter of wine in the world. The country is known for offering great wine via the combination of traditional and new technologies & ideas.

Each day, about 2.5 million bottles of Australian wine head overseas. Exporters bought eight million liters of Australian wine during April 2005 & April 2006, with large quantity of red wine.

However, the quantity is still considerably lower compared to those from Spain & Chile, both are equally responsible for a major share of the total 40 million liters of large quantity that was sent to China in the year 2006.

Four million liters wine was exported by Australia to China in the year 2005, but in 2006 it increased to 21 million liters. Also exports to Sweden increased by US$ 9 million to US$ 52 million while the volume increased 4 million liters to 16 million liters.

As per a research Analyst at
RNCOS, "Increase in bulk shipments of wine was the outcome of opportunistic sales of wine, retailers buying the wine in bulk so as to sell them under their labels. This resulted in lowering costs of bottling Australian brands in overseas market". UK is the largest importer of wine for Australia. Italy is on second position followed by Canada.
