India's agricultural and food exports comprises about 1.6% of the world trade according to Ministry of Food Processing Industries' report.
As indicated by Ministry of Food Processing Industries' report, India's agricultural and food exports comprises about 1.6% of the world trade. Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Subodh Kant, informed this in a news article issued by Daily India.
He observed that "the major reasons for unsatisfactory export performance are non-availability of exportable products in adequate quality and quantity, non-tariff barriers in the world markets, inability to achieve and maintain high standards of supply as well as build a brand image for quality, safety and reliability" in a report released by Equity Bulls.
But the Indian Government has taken several measures to boost the export credit accessibility by launching novel plans like post-shipment export credit in dollars and pre-shipment credit in foreign currency at lower rates of interest. RBI's export credit refinance services and account facility for export materials extended to full service banks also facilitates the issuance of enough export credit.
The Government is also promoting participation of exporters in international trade fairs and expositions for improved market access, market support, and display of their goods.
The seeds policy espoused recently offers access to quality seeds and plant matter for veggies, fruit, flowers, oil-rich seeds and pulses, without compromising on quality. Several innovative measures have been initiated to promote private sector investment in the food processing industry.
As per a research analyst at RNCOS, "India needs to focus on increasing its produce to raise the volume of its food exports. Food production in India can be enhanced by increased and appropriate utilization of irrigation resources, balanced use of fertilizers, farmers' education, use of high yield seeds, plant protection, etc. The Indian government and food processing industry should take some initiatives to make the use of herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides popular to minimize the loss of crops".
